![]() "Leo! Leo!" and "Aloivia" feature great use of dramatic chanting and penetrating beats, but the forces don't correspond well with each other and create an even more surreal sound than intended. ![]() Unfortunately, it becomes obvious in other tracks that Honda has a tendency to use forces in a divergent way without really considering the big picture. The development section of the composition from 2:10 is most interesting - forces dissipate to give an eerie atmosphere before gradually building back up into a heavenly climax. "Jehuty - Vivid Transparency", for instance, blends futuristic electronic beats and solemn strings before taking things up a notch with harder rhythms and spacey distortions. "Descending Aumaan" is a major highlight too and demonstrates Kakuta's flair for creating soothing yet stimulating timbres.Īkihiro Honda's contributions tend to be based on repeating and layering diverse forces to create interesting rhythms and timbres. The entire composition seems perfect for representing the infiltration of an advanced ship. ![]() His electronica here channels influences from the psychadelic trance genre and mixes it with dabs of operatic and drum 'n bass. He reuses many of the features "VR Training" in "Bahram Battleship", but this time makes the composition much richer in both development and timbre. Though intrinsically simple and rather short, they both create so much atmosphere with their gentle layering of percussion and synth pads. "Seek Taper" and "VR Training" are beautifully mixed industrial tracks. Bemani composer Toshiyuki Kakuta (aka L.E.D.) probably creates the finest electronic pieces on the soundtrack. Though a multi-composer score, the composers complement each other to create a consistently fitting accompaniment to the game while precisely depicting specific settings or battles too. Much of the soundtrack focuses on adding atmosphere and dynamism to the game's scenarios through electronic soundscaping. It won't be for everyone, but is quite well done. He transforms the song with electronically distorted vocals, meditative electronic overtones, and some harder techno beats. However, the most abstract version is Mitsuto Suzuki's post-production mix in the middle of the soundtrack. The main melody also makes powerful appearances in several of Kirioka's instrumental tracks, notably in the most motivating section of "Air Fight" and more subtly in the technofest "Compression Space". The song maintains interest throughout its six minute playtime with novel sections dedicated to evocative violin solos or electronic experimentation. However, the chorus is relatively serene - featuring the unforgettable main melody of the sung in English by a reasonable vocalist. The beautiful timbre created by the blend of exotic vocals, soaring strings, and futuristic beats ensures a colourful introduction to the mech world. Following a moody cinematic introduction, the song moves into the upbeat verse. Maki Kirioka's main theme for Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, "Beyond the Bounds," is one of Konami's finest vocal themes. The album release features 22 tracks and was available in import and domestic versions. As a result, the team both create a coherent and distinctive in-game accompaniment while ensuring individual compositions are often interesting too. However, it also features a lot of diversity and displays influences from world, orchestral, operatic, and jazz music as well. Like its predecessor, much of the score focuses on electronic genres to capture the futuristic and mechanical feel of the game. Original game composers Maki Kirioka, Akihiro Honda, Toshiyuki Kakuta, and Norihiko Hibino returned to expand upon the music for the title. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is the critically acclaimed sequel in Hideo Kojima's ultramodern mech franchise.

![]() Instead, dirt tracks feel different than regular roads, but in a programmatic way: the surface properties will change but there’s no real visual cue that they differ apart from their colors and shades. Rally is all about bumps, uneven surfaces, and holes filled with puddles. When driving on dirt tracks, such roads and trails appear to be perfectly flat just like regular roads, which removes most of the fun. ![]() However, I do care a little more about the roads. But let’s not nitpick here, it’s fairly obvious that the tracks are just made to set the stage, not represent anything accurately. And Japanese mountains are a lot more rocky and dangerous than the hills pictured here. Don’t expect any dirt tracks, despite what Art of Rally depicts. Cherry blossoms means lots of tourists, and you can bet the Japanese will make their roads nice and new when they attract a lot of people. For example, in Japan, they keep making you drive in mountains filled with cherry blossoms, on DIRT TRACKS. The environment looks great, while they are certainly more fiction than accurate. ![]() Juts speaking from my 30 years of driving in video games and almost as much on actual roads in actual cars, you know. But hey, a lot of people seem to enjoy the way Art of Rally works, so I may be completely wrong. So I find myself fighting with the controls to keep my car on the road rather than focusing on making perfect curves and increasing my speed. It feels like cars a drifting way more than they should at the speed they are at. I am not sure it’s implemented very well, both on dirt tracks as well as regular roads. I don’t know what they were thinking there.ĭrifting is a key mechanic here, make no mistake. Swerving left or right will make the car drift in an uncontrollable way. Some cars drive ok, others like la wedge are simply horrible to handle. It also really depends on the car you pick. Driving takes practice, and you may end up in the trees more often than you’d like. Well, Art of Rally is certainly NOT in the arcade category. Now how is the driving? Is it just right? That’s always a tricky subject, somewhat subjective depending on what you expect from a game in general and if you like simulations more than arcade games. Actually, it would be useful when you drive really fast, but the devs decided not to include it. Because of the top-view approach, you can see all curves coming to you ahead of time, so there’s not really a need for a co-pilot to shout “5 left, 3 right” as you drive. Now, what kind of rally experience should you expect? Quite different from what you may be used to. As you win races of finish seasons you unlock new cars with different looks and characteristics. There’s no brands mentioned but the trained eye will recognize them very easily. ![]() Easy to advance even if you don’t have hours in front of you.Įach season represents a year in time and you get a selection of cars more or less fitting with what was available to race during that year. Menus are simple (black text on white without any kind of decoration), and all tracks use few main colors and almost no textures to depict the race and its environment. The whole game takes a very minimalist approach. And despite what the trailer might have suggested, it does not play at all like Dirt Rally or anything in the Dirt series for that matter. With Art of Rally, we get a surprising new take on a very popular racing genre. Yet they have completely disappeared by now. Ever wondered what happened to racing games viewed from above? The stretching experiment shows gum cuds owning strain hardening during uniaxial extension. This distinction is mainly due to its on-purpose design, which allows it to form and maintain large, stable bubbles when blown up through sizeable shear stress on the tongue. Therefore, bubble gums can withstand more substantial stresses before break-up than normal chewing gums. On the contrary, bubble gums only show fractional recovery lower than 15%. This relatively high fractional recovery (the ability to recover its previous shape) is consistent with providing a satisfying sensory feel. The former demonstrates that fractional recovery, defined as the ratio between measured strain after deformation and recovered strain without adding shear stress, for chewing gums under moderate shear stress (~ 1000 Pa) is between 25% and 40%. Regarding plastic deformation, the nonlinear viscoelasticity can be explored through shear creep experiments (relaxation time) and the start-up of steady shear stress-controlled uniaxial/biaxial extension. Normally, this yield strain is less than 1%. Under it, gum cuds show elastic deformation that follows power-law behavior as a critical gel in the linear regime otherwise, exhibiting nonlinear responses with increasing shear stress (plasticity). Here the critical yield strain is defined as the modulus deviating about 10% from its initial value. The linear viscoelastic (LVE) property can be probed on pre-shaped gum cuds through a small isothermal strain deformation (i.e., below yield strain) under small amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS). Based on these, it is helpful to characterize the intrinsic rheological properties of chewing gums for future improvement and optimization of commercial products’ texture and chewiness. Therefore, the distinct deformations under chewing can be affected by shear rate, shear strain, and shear stress applied through teeth. Mechanical Properties Īs a sort of chewing gum consisting of long-chain polysaccharides, bubblegum can typically exhibit linear and nonlinear viscoelastic behaviors. These materials allow for longer lasting flavor, a softer texture, and a reduction in tackiness. However, most modern types of chewing gum use synthetic gum-based materials. ![]() In modern chewing gum, if natural rubber such as chicle is used, it must pass several purity and cleanliness tests. Vanilla, cherry, lemon, and orange oil have also been suggested as ingredients. Ī natural bubble gum flavoring can be produced by combining banana, pineapple, cinnamon, cloves, and wintergreen. Esters used in synthetic bubble gum flavoring may include methyl salicylate, ethyl butyrate, benzyl acetate, amyl acetate or cinnamic aldehyde. While there is a bubble gum "flavor" – which various artificial flavorings including esters are mixed to obtain – it varies from one company to another. Bubble gum (or bubblegum) is a type of chewing gum, designed to be inflated out of the mouth as a bubble. ![]() Years ago, the kingdoms of man were put to the test in a war that lasted decades.
